Alerting for Database Activity Monitoring

  • Real-time alerts sent via email enable users to track and respond to public cloud database activity! Take advantage of the ability to create and customize alerts to meet your organization's specific needs. Check out the following video and continue reading below for step-by-step guidance on this new functionality:
  • The new "Alerts" page allows you to search alerts based on Date, Time, State (open or closed), Severity (info, warning, error), Policy (the rules the alert is based on) and Owner (i.e. the person responsible for handling the alert).

The "Policy" search function is especially useful in that it enables users to find specific security-related issues for which an alert has been created, such as when information is deleted or accessed.

  • The table titled "Alerts" provides a list of triggered events and what state they are in.  You can view all alerts or a segment of alerts based on the search query.

To obtain alert details, description, action items (e.g., ignore, close, assign, etc.) and history click on the timestamp of an alert in the "Time" column.

The "Policy" column links to the set of rules the activity is evaluated against.

Clicking on a link in the "Activity" column allows you to see what caused the alert.

  • To create an alert policy, select "Policies" in the upper right corner. Then, hit the blue add button and follow the prompts.

You'll have the option to customize your alert policy with details such as which databases, provider, and service to search; custom tags; when to run the alert; who should receive the alert; how long to store the alert; what to title the alert and more.

It's especially helpful to enter a clear description of what the alert is checking for as the "Title" when setting up the policy because "Title" is the searchable item in the "Policy" drop-down in the "Search" table and  "Policy" column in the "Alerts" table.  A title such as "Alert on Insert Action" clearly defines what the alert policy is intended to raise awareness about.

Once alert policies are created, they will be listed on the policies page.
